Avent Energy Limited

Company Profile

Advent Energy is a public unlisted oil and gas exploration company based in Perth, Western Australia. Recent strategic appointments have included the appointment of former Schlumberger Asia President, Mr Goh Hock as Chairman of the board of Directors, and the appointment of Mr Ding Gui Ming, the former head of one of the world's largest oil producers, as a senior member of the Advisory Panel.

Mr Ding is a former senior Chinese Government Ministerial official with significant networks at the highest level in China. He was the former Head of Exploration for the China National Petroleum Company (CNPC), where he directed the exploration activity of more than 20 oilfields all over China. Mr Ding last served as Commissioner of the China State Asset Administration Office, where he reported directly to the Prime Minister's office and supervised the reform of major Chinese state enterprises.

An option has been acquired to invest into the exploration of PEP 11, one of the largest remaining unexplored permits for oil or gas in Australia.

A literature review has resulted in a number of key studies being identified which were produced by prior tenement holders Santos and Ampolex.  The following extracts are produced from a major study "Offshore Sydney Basin" produced by the Federal Government Bureau of Research Sciences in conjunction with the NSW Department of Mineral Resources.

The full referenced paper is available by clicking on this link Santos Report

"Santos (1991) identified a total 10 structural leads in the PEP 11 offshore area and these were associated with four distinct structural provinces"

"Based on the 15m net pay in each a total of 975 BCF of gas in-place and 620 BCF of sales gas reserves were identified by Santos (1991)"

"Ampolex (1992) identified the Baleen South Lead as one of their major targets.  The Baleen South Lead is located about 20km offshore (some 30km south-southeast of Newcastle) on the crest of the "Offshore Uplift"."

"One of the reasons why the Early Permian, with a stronger marine influence, is considered to have the better reservoir potential and why reservoir potential should increase to the east, in the offshore, where palaeo-depositional environments had greater marine influence."

"Although no wells have been drilled in the offshore Sydney Basin and most interest has focused on the onshore coal resources, offshore oil and gas seeps have been recorded from Long Reef to Catherine Hill Bay, giving rise to periodic oil slick occurrences along the coast, especially in the Cape Three Points, Terrigal area, supporting the assessment that the Basin contains an active petroleum system.  So this area (PEP 11) represents a unique opportunity to explore a frontier Permo-Triassic basin complex containing mature source rocks and active petroleum systems, adjacent to Australia's most populous metropolis"

After decades of speculation about the significant potential of the prospect, work is underway to enable an exploration well to be drilled that will determine whether Sydney is sitting on the edge of a significant gas province. The large potential reward of a successful drilling programme creates a very attractive exploration opportunity.

Advent has signed an Option to enter a farm-in agreement in the South Australian Cooper Basin.  The Option provides Advent with the right to participate in two wells with the Victoria Petroleum led Joint Venture in the prospects present in the PEL 111 Catalina Block.

Advent Energy has previously acquired 100% of Exploration Permit EP 386 (4,760 square kilometres in area) which covers the entire Western Australian section of the on-shore Bonaparte Basin. In the Northern Territory, Advent has acquired 100% of Retention Lease RL-1 (166 square kilometres in area), which covers the Weaber Gas Field and two related prospects, Weaber North and Weaber Southwest.

The Company has also acquired an 8.3% interest in a shallow, near shore permit in the Exmouth sub-Basin region of the Carnarvon Basin, which contains the undeveloped 7 - 18 billion cubic feet Rivoli Gas Field discovery with its 11 metre gas column within the Birdrong Sandstone, a prolific hydrocarbon producer in the Carnarvon Basin. Project development and gas supply terms are being negotiated, with first gas sales anticipated in late 2009.

Advent Energy also holds a strategic interest in Central Petroleum Ltd.
